Coconut Oil Hair Mask

Lately I have really been trying to utilize more natural and organic products in my beauty routine because I want to eliminate as many harsh chemicals and parabens as possible. As far as my hair care goes, I have found coconut oil to be an amazing substitute for the expensive and unnatural deep conditioners I use. My hair looks soft and shiny after even one use of this mask and after a few consistent uses I can tell its much stronger and less prone to breakage as well. The best part is that a jar of coconut oil is about one third of the price I'd pay for one of my conditioners!

To do this mask all you need is about two tablespoons of melted coconut oil (or less if your hair is short). Super simple!:)

The brand of coconut oil I use is Kelapo but any kind works. Generally you want to buy cold pressed and unrefined oil when you are cooking with it for the health benefits, but because this is just for your hair its not quite as important what grade you buy.

1.First, heat the oil up so that it is liquefied but not too hot that it will burn your scalp. Start by applying a small amount to the crown of your head and working it through.( I like to do a little head massage here because it feels good and stimulates hair growth but this step is optional.)

2. Next, apply the oil down the length of your hair all the way to your ends. Make sure you concentrate on the ends because they will be the driest. You want your hair to be wet looking but not dripping with oil.

3.After this I suggest sticking your hair into a ponytail or bun and letting it sit for as long as possible! Try to shoot for at least an hour. I like to put an old t-shirt on my pillow and sleep with it in to allow it to soak in all night. I sometimes prefer to do this mask in the morning and braid my hair and go out like that throughout the day. The oil will kind of harden once it cools so it will make your hair look gelled back instead of just sopping wet with oil. No one will know the difference!

4. To wash it out you only need to shampoo once and then follow with conditioner. Some like to shampoo twice but I rarely find that necessary.

5. I try to do this every other night that I wash my hair, so about 1 or 2 times a week.

I hope this was helpful and makes your hair super shiny and soft!
